PRIME DUTIES OF EACH POST

VETERINARIAN

1. Laboratory Animals breeding on modern lines. 2. Experimental work in animals. 3. Treatment of sick animals. 4. Testing of animals for potency and safety of vaccines. 5. Research in animal breeding, etc. 6. Post-mortem of animals. 7. Supervision of the work of animal house Staff and maintenance of records. 8. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

1. To look after all Administrative, Legal, Accounts, Audit, Budget matters, etc. 2. Any other work assigned to him from time to time

REFRIGERATION ENGINEER

1. Maintenance of Air Freezer, Freeze Driers and Medical Laboratory, Mechanical and electrical appliances. 2. Minor repairs of Plants & equipments. 3. Supervision of the workshop staff and their shift duties. 4. Maintenance of records of various equipments running continuously. 5. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

JUNIOR TECHNICAL OFFICER

1. Responsible for all work pertaining to accounts and cash. 2. Preparation of Budget, reconciliation of accounts both under Plan and Non-plan. 3. Keep a track of adjustment towards the cost of Biologicals supplied to the States and Union territories. 4. Follow up action on the reports of both internal and external audit parties. 5. Pay fixation of Staff. 6. Passing of bills for payment.

STATISTICIAN

1. Analysis of the data pertaining to production, biological standardization and quality control of freeze dried BCG Vaccine and PPD Tuberculin. 2. Analysis of the data on supply of freeze dried BCG Vaccine and PPD Tuberculin and analysis of feed-back from the field. 3. Maintenance of all records pertaining to production, biological standardization and quality control of BCG Vaccine and PPD Tuberculin. 4. Design of experiments and analysis of research data and programming and computerization of data associated with Research & Development studies. 5. Analysis of data on testing of all freeze dried BCG Vaccine manufactured by other Laboratories (referred by the World Health Organisation) at the WHO Collaboration Centre, BCG Vaccine Laboratory, Guindy, Chennai. 6. Maintenance of all records pertaining to World Health Organisation collaboration Centre. 7. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

STATISTICAL INVESTIGATOR (GRADE-II)

1. Routine analysis of the data connected with vaccine production and quality control. 2. Design of experiments with application of statistics and analysis of research data. 3. To assist in programming and computerization of data associated with Research studies. 4. Maintenance of all records pertaining to production, Biological standardization and Quality Control of BCG Vaccine. 5. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

TECHNICAL SUPERVISOR

1. Directly concerned with all aspects of the work required in the production and testing of BCG Vaccine. 2. In-charge of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, supervision of preparation of media, sterilization, filling, sealing, labeling and packing, under direct guidance of concerned Officer. 3. To maintain full records of every step in the manufacture as also details of control tests applied at various stages. 4. Supervise, guide and advise the Laboratory Staff under them in all technical aspects. 5. To help the Officers in teaching cum training, research work, literature, abstractions, etc. 6. Maintain liaison between Laboratory Staff and the Officers. 7. Any other work assigned to them from time to time by the Assistant Technical Officers.

SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT

1. Directly concerned with all aspects of the work required in the preparation and testing of BCG Vaccine, Tuberculin, etc. 2. Supervise, guide and advise the Laboratory Staff under them in all technical aspects. 3. To help the Officers in research work. 4. To carryout sterility tests on biological. 5. To carryout sterilization by dry heat and autoclaving. 6. To assist in the testing of BCG Vaccine and PPD. 7. Seal BCG Vaccine in final containers. 8. Maintain liaison between the Laboratory Staff and the Officers. 9. Any other work assigned to them from time to time by the Assistant Technical Officers and Technical Supervisors.

SENIOR LABORATORY ASSISTANT

1. To do all the Technical jobs under the guidance of Assistant Technical Officers, Technical Supervisors and Scientific Assistants. 2. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

REFRIGERATION ENGINEER

1. Maintenance of Air Freezer, Freeze Driers and Medical Laboratory, Mechanical and electrical appliances. 2. Minor repairs of Plants & equipments. 3. LABORATORY ASSISTANT

1. To do all the Technical jobs under the guidance of Technical Supervisors,Scientific Assistants, Senior Laboratory Assistants. 2. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

ELECTRICAL & MECHANICAL SUPERVISOR

1. To operate the machines like walk in cooler (4� C) and walk in freezer (-20� C). 2. To assist the Refrigeration Engineer in matters of day to day maintenance and working of the above machines. 3. To look after the maintenance of all the machines. 4. To supervise the work of technical staff in the maintenance section. 5. Any other work assigned by the Director/ Refrigeration Engineer from time to time.

TECHNICIAN

1. Supervision of the running and maintenance of the various electrical, mechanical and other sophisticated equipments maintained in the Laboratory. 2. Supervision of the work of workshop staff. 3. Installation and inspection of new equipments and reporting their performance. 4. Repairing of the various equipments and plants. 5. Selection of equipments, spare parts for equipments and other workshop tools work on the freeze drying equipments including shift duties. 6. Any other work assigned to them from time to time by the Refrigeration Engineer and Director.

MECHANIC

1. To assist Refrigeration Engineer and Technician in the running and maintenance of all equipments. 2. To look after freeze drying equipments during office hours and beyond by shift duties. 3. Attending and repairing to the defects in the working of Mechanics under the supervision

ASSISTANT MECHANIC

1. Assisting in the day to day maintenance of the walk-in-cooler 4�C and walk in freezer -20�C and the other existing machines. 2. Attending and repairing to the defects in the working of the machines under the supervision of Refrigeration Engineer/ Technicians. 3. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

CARETAKER

1. Sanitation. 2. Duty Rosters of Watchman and Safaiwala. 3. Surprise checking of the premises during day/ night. 4. Fire control. 5. General cleanliness of premises. 6. Gardening/ Horticulture work. 7. Security arrangements of the Laboratory and the premises. 8. Receiving of materials stores in Stores Section, outside office hours. 9. Arrangements for shifting of furniture and equipments. 10. Assistance to Stores. 11. Transportation of vaccine to Airport and booking of parcels. 12. Other miscellaneous jobs assigned by the Director from time to time.

MOTOR DRIVER

1. To drive the vehicle for official work. 2. To clean and maintain the vehicle. 3. Maintenance of log book. 4. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

HEAD CARPENTER

1. To attend to carpentry work required in the Laboratory. 2. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

OFFICE SUPERINTENDENT

1. Responsible for organization of the office working and allocating duties to various office Staff. 2. To co-ordinate and supervise their work. 3. To ensure discipline including attendance of the office Staff. 4. To ensure observances of various prescribed office procedures. 5. Responsible for custody of various confidential records. 6. Responsible to the head of the office in all administrative matters. 7. To be in-charge of all the Sections of the office. 8. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

HEAD CLERK

1. To supervise and guide the work of Ministerial Staff under him. 2. To attend to any cases of important or special nature assigned to him. 3. To ensure maintenance of discipline in the Section. 4. To ensure punctual attendance of members of Staff working in the Section. 5. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

UPPER DIVISION CLERK

1. Generally to work independently on a subject or subjects and be in-charge of a Section or Sections whenever required. 2. Maintenance of registers, filing, typing, etc. 3. Any other clerical duty that may be assigned to them. 4. Assisting to Office Superintendent in the matter of recruitment of employees, arranging of Departmental Promotion Committee, submission of proposals, periodical returns and maintenance of rosters. 5. Attending to internal and Accountant Generals audit and clearance of Audit objections. 6. Settlement of pension claims and other terminal benefits of retiring employees, fixation of pay of re-employed ex-servicemen. 7. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

LOWER DIVISION CLERK

1. Typing, Diary and Despatch of letters. 2. Filing, recording and maintenance of various registers. 3. Assistance in the disposal of clerical items of work. 4. Generally required to work under the guidance of a Upper Division Clerk or Senior Lower Division Clerk. But depending on the need and the nature of the work and also their capacity, they may be required to work independently also with regard to a particular subject or subjects. 5. Any other clerical duties that may be assigned to them. 6. Attending to the phone calls.

STENOGRAPHER (SENIOR)

1. Stenographic assistance to Director. 2. To prepare reports on the development of the Laboratory required by several agencies. 3. All policy matters relating to the following branches: a) Establishment b) Stores c) Supply d) Personnel, etc. 4. Confidential Reports � Annual and Special. 5. Vigilance and Administrative Inspection. 6. Annual Reports and other periodical reports of the Laboratory and all reports of comprehensive nature. 7. Fellowship and training. 8. Statistics, Scientific and Administrative. 9. Reports � Weekly, Monthly and Annual. 10. C.H.S. Statements. 11. To make security arrangements. 12. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

STENOGRAPHER, GRADE-III

1. Stenographic assistance to Administrative Officer and Director. 2. Looking after correspondence relating to Court cases, Staff Quarters, expansion of Laboratory building. 3. Attending to Court cases in the Central Administrative Tribunal. 4. Preparation of Budget Estimates. 5. Attending to the Inspection Reports of Audit Party. 6. Any other duties assigned to them from time to time.

STOREKEEPER

1. Receipt, custody and issue of various items of stores and the maintenance of the Stock Register and other Registers relating to them. 2. To assist in the procurement of various Stores. 3. Any other clerical duty that may be assigned to him.

HINDI TRANSLATOR

1. To keep a watch on the utilization of the vaccine and furnish the utilization reports to the concerned authorities. 2. To reply for all letters received in Hindi from Hindi speaking States. 3. To communicate in Hindi whenever occasion arises as per the policy laid down by the Government. 4. To look after the work of progressive use of Hindi like sending officials for training for different courses. 5. To look after the translation of Hindi circulars. 6. To send periodical quarterly and half yearly returns. 7. Any other work that may be assigned too him/ her.

HINDI TYPIST

1. Diarising the incoming receipts in Hindi received from different organizations. 2. Typing of all Hindi letters, statements, periodical returns, etc. 3. To assist the Hindi translator in his/ her work whenever needed. 4. Arranging periodical repair/ maintenance of Hindi typewriter. 5. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

CARPENTER

1. To make wooden boxes required for dispatch of parcels. 2. To attend to all carpentry work required in the Laboratory. 3. Any other work assigned to him from time to time.

MULTI TASKING STAFF

All category of Group-D has been taken into Group-C after giving them training as per 6th Central Pay Commission recommendations, which includes the following category of posts and the work detailed below:- 1. Laboratory Attendant; 2. Laboratory Peon; 3. Khalasi (Workshop); 4. Animal Attendant; 5. Office Peon; 6. Gardener; 7. Watchman; 8. Safaiwala;

DUTIES

1. Preparation of glassware and other apparatus for sterilization. 2. To carryout filling, narrowing and sealing of ampoules and bottling of biologicals. 3. To carryout labeling, leak testing and packing of vaccines and other biologicals. 4. To assist in the preparation of media and other solutions. 5. To assist in performing sterility test. 6. To assist in performing viability tests. 7. To assist the Technical Supervisors, Scientific Assistants, Senior Lab. Assistants and Laboratory Assistants in their various duties. 8. Any other work assigned to them from time to time. 9. To carryout washing of glassware and other apparatus. 10. Cutting and arranging of ampoules and other containers for sterilization. 11. To transport media vaccine and other materials in the Laboratory. 12. To label and pack the ampoules and other containers for dispatch. 13. Despatching and booking of vaccine parcels. 14. Any other work assigned to him from time to time. 15. Assistance to the Mechanics and Technicians in all Electrical and Mechanical work on the various equipments and plants in the workshop. 16. To afford shift assistance to the Mechanics and Technicians. 17. Maintenance of tools. 18. Any other work assigned to them from time to time. 19. Maintenance and preservation of animal feeds. 20. Feeding of animals. 21. Cage washing. 22. Disposal of animals used for experiments. 23. All work pertaining to breeding, maintenance and experimentation of Laboratory animals under the supervision of Veterinarian. 24. To assist the Laboratory Assistant, Senior Laboratory Assistant and Veterinarian in their various duties. 25. Any other work assigned to him from time to time. 26. Normal duties as Office Peon. 27. Any other work assigned to him from time to time. 28. To look after the maintenance of gardens. 29. To attend to other duties assigned to him when necessary. 30. Sweeping and cleaning the Laboratory rooms. 31. Sweeping and cleaning the open grounds, verandahs, toilets and all other rooms. 32. Sweeping and cleaning the animal rooms, animal cages and feeding of the animals, etc. 33. Any other work assigned to him from time to time. 34. To afford security round the clock to the buildings and the various Stores Department on the premises. 35. To attend to other duties (suitable to his grade) assigned to him when necessary.
